Chicago pet photographer Jennifer Schuman, in her own words.
I've been a dog owner my whole life, and a professional photographer since 2004. For most of my career I photographed people — executives, entrepreneurs, and professionals across Chicago — building their personal brand through headshots and portraits at my Evanston studio.
Somewhere along the way, the sessions I loved most weren't the corporate headshots. They were the ones where a client's dog wandered into frame, or a cat watched suspiciously from across the room. I started noticing how much personality pets bring to a portrait, and how few photographers actually specialize in capturing that well.
So I made the shift. Horizon Photography is now Horizon Pet Photography — same studio, same 22 years of experience and Pratt Institute training, entirely refocused on the clients I enjoy photographing most: dogs, cats, and the people who love them.
Every session is built around your pet's pace, not a shot list. No forced poses, no rushing — just a calm, patient session in the studio or on location, letting your pet's real personality come through. If they need a break, we take one. If they're having a great moment, we stay in it.
